5 events trends to look for in 2024

Interactive experiences
Now that in-person events are back in full swing, it’s not enough to just be face to face, you have to be truly engaging with attendees. Virtual reality and augmented reality options will be popular. Tactile activities that spark creativity are a unique idea (think drawing, painting or other crafty ideas). And, of course, anything that involves teamwork, like scavenger hunts or trivia games.

Sustainability
This one isn’t new, but environmentally friendly events will continue to gain traction. This will include locally sourced foods for meals (with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options), eliminating one-time use items, sustainable swag (like reusable bottles) and eco-friendly transportation.

Wellness
When it comes to multi-day events, wellness and mental health activities will be a big consideration. Yoga, meditation, spa services and exercise options should be made available to all guests. Overloaded schedules are also being looked at, with more breaks and downtime to help avoid burnout.

Onsite event technology
Badges with QR codes, event apps, digital or 3D location maps and point collecting/continuing education software are all must-haves for 2024 events. While many people like to stay old school with tangible programs and itineraries, for example, digital options should always be available.

Hybrid attendance
Pre-pandemic we were all in-person. During the pandemic, we were virtual. And since then, people like to have the option to do one or both of these things. Being flexible with attendance will be necessary going forward, so while your main event may be in person, virtual attendance should also be an option. Meetings, presentations and panel discussions should all be live-streamed if possible, for participants watching from the comfort of their own homes. You should also provide virtual accessibility to break-out rooms or smaller group sessions.
